Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Developers Address Time to Kill Criticisms and Tweak Weapons in New Beta Update

Image
Infinity Ward has addressed the state of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's time to kill and tweaked a handful of weapons in a new beta update. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's beta is coming to a close, but Infinity Ward is still updating the hell out of it. The latest update was pushed this morning before the beta officially winds down tomorrow. Per the patch notes , a bunch of weapons have been tuned following feedback from fans, including the ISO Nightshade SMG, which got a slight buff with damage improvements. The PPSH, Krait P68, Han 86, and Hyeon Burst all got various buffs as well, with the latter's headshot damage multiplier increasing from 1 to 1.1. A handful of weapons got nerfed, but the most notable hit was taken by the M4 Hurricane variant, which had its damage decreased. Infinity Ward also used the update as an opportunity to address the game's time to kill, which was divisive in the first beta weekend for being far too fast. Following some adjustments, MW...

'It Ended My Old Life' — DayZ Felt Like Dying, Says Creator

Image
Dean Hall, creator of zombie survival game DayZ and founder of RocketWerkz, seems to have a complicated relationship with his biggest hit, which was first released as a mod for Arma 2 in 2012. "When DayZ happened, it was like dying," Hall told PC Gamer . "It ended my old life. My relationship with everyone who I knew up to that point changed completely." "It was obviously an amazing thing that happened to me," he added. "I loved making the mod, and I loved that feeling, and I've been chasing it ever since." The game started life as a mod for Arma 2 and its expansion pack Operation Arrowhead and was so popular with gamers that just a few months later Hall announced that Arma 2 developer Bohemia Interactive was creating a standalone version of the game , with Hall as project lead. "People think I'm a game developer who came up from [being] a modder, and I would say I'm a modder who makes games during the day," Hall added. ...

GTA 5's Michael Actor Defends GTA 6 After Doubters Say Rockstar's Games Look Too Similar

Image
Ned Luke, the actor behind Grand Theft Auto 5 's Michael De Santa, said people who think Grand Theft Auto 6 looks too much like GTA 5 are "out of their minds." Luke has remained an important figure in the GTA community since he first appeared as one of three playable professional criminals in the 2013 installment. Now that he and the rest of the world have gotten a closer look at what Rockstar Games is cooking up with GTA 6, he's stepped in to defend it from the naysayers. One of the many, many talking points to emerge in the wake of last week's GTA 6: Extended Look was that playing as protagonists Jason and Lucia looked a little too similar to the kind of gameplay one could expect from GTA 5. While most seem to believe Rockstar has wisely used the 13 years since that game's release, it hasn't stopped skepticism from creeping in. Luke doesn't seem to be included in the new game's cast, but he still made sure to refute some of the criticisms poppin...

4 Penny Coffins Lets You Play 19th-Century Detective – Or a 10-Foot Demon Ripping Friends in Half

Image
4 Penny Coffins is Jack the Ripper Meets Among Us, with a little bit of Psychonauts thrown in for fun. In the upcoming social investigation game, up to 8 players hunt a hidden murderer through lies, shifting alibis, and hard evidence . One of the players is the Ripper, a “gleeful demon concealed behind a facade of humanity,” stalking the winding alleys and rotting byways of 1888 London. Ahead of IGN debuting 4 Penny Coffins’s gameplay teaser during gamescom 2026, which you can see in the player below, I spoke to Other Ocean Interactive Marketing Manager Jared Petty about the game’s mechanics, unique style (think stylized gore on top of monochromatic photographs), and Tim Schafer-inspired humor. “It's a goddamn blast,” Petty says. “Four Penny Coffins; I've rarely had more fun playing a game with other people. A long time ago I was talking to Tim Schafer and I was asking him about humor in video games. Tim's opinion is that humor in video games is the easiest thing in the w...

GTA 6 Will Have No Microtransactions or Generative AI at Launch, Rockstar Says

Image
Rockstar Games has said Grand Theft Auto 6 will have no microtransactions or generative AI when it launches in November. The studio behind GTA 6 confirmed this year's monumental open-world game will dodge two potentially controversial practices during a conversation with Kinda Funny Games earlier this week. It means launch should be free of backlash (at least when it comes to these two particular topics) when it arrives in a few months. Kinda Funny's Andy Cortez said he asked Rockstar if players will be able to use real-world money to purchase things in-game during a preview event that preceded the GTA 6: Extended Look. He went on, saying, "no monetizations in this game." The site's Greg Miller immediately followed that topic, saying he asked Rockstar "point-blank" if there is generative AI in GTA 6. The team told him that there is "no AI" used in the game. From Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Arc Raiders , generative AI has proven time and t...

EA Motive's Iron Man Game Reveal 'Didn't Go as Planned,' But the Leak Has Marvel Fans More Excited Than Ever

Image
EA Motive Studio's Iron Man game suffered an unexpected leak, but it may have resulted in Marvel fans being more excited about it than ever. Leaks in the gaming world are generally perceived as bad. Just look at Grand Theft Auto 6, a game that suffered a waterfall of leaks so significant that it sent Rockstar scrambling to pick up the pieces . When a trailer for Motive's Iron Man game was hit with a leak earlier this week, however, EA chose to handle its unexpected gameplay reveal a little differently. Unlike GTA 6, Iron Man only had to deal with a controlled (and early-in-development) peek behind the curtain, leaving fans to comb through every second of footage for highlights. Seeing Tony Stark zipping around skyscrapers and dodging enemies on S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarriers is far and away the most we've seen so far, but considering the damage had already been done, EA decided to have a bit of fun with it. Just hours after clips began to circulate on social media, EA erected...

GTA 6 Just Blew Me Away; I'm So Glad I Avoided the Leaks

Image
I'm so, so glad I avoided the GTA 6 leaks . Grand Theft Auto has been one of my favorite franchises since GTA 3 convinced me to buy a PS2 with its paradigm-shifting open-world gameplay. That's continued with every major release since, most recently with 2013's Grand Theft Auto 5, which I personally regard as one of the ten greatest games ever made. So to say I've been hyped up for GTA 6 – and for today’s Extended Look – would be putting it mildly. Thirteen years is a long time between entries (for context, the previous longest wait between mainline entries was the five years between 4 and 5), and though Rockstar made a generationally incredible game in the intervening years in the form of Red Dead Redemption 2, I've always been more of a GTA guy. When the clock struck 12pm, I hit Play on Netflix. My jaw hit the floor very quickly, and I didn't pick it back up for 27 minutes. The first thing that jumped out at me was the lighting. The softness of the dynamic ligh...

Silent Hill Producer Says Konami Wants to Release a New Game in the Series Every Year

Image
Silent Hill producer Motoi Okamoto says that Konami is gunning for annual releases of new games in its flagship horror franchise. Okamoto divulged this news in an interview with Gamesradar at Gamescom 2026, explaining that Konami is looking for fresh takes on the well-trodden beats of the Silent Hill series to keep it from stagnating. "Our aim is to, hopefully, have an annual release of new games," he told the outlet. “If we stay laser-focused on the same American setting, that would exhaust [narrative] possibilities, and also potentially cause fatigue for the playerbase." Okamoto also confirmed that several unannounced Silent Hill projects are currently in development. "There are still many projects that are still [in] the works and very unannounced titles. So obviously, we can't go into specifics. But there are still many projects that we are currently exploring and working on as we speak,” he said. "We would like to let players know that we have more ex...

'I Think That Was a Big Flaw' — Uncharted 3 Designer Says the Game Was Hindered by Too Many Set Pieces

Image
An ex-Naughty Dog designer believes that Uncharted 2's success may have negatively impacted the way Uncharted 3 was developed. When speaking with FRVR , ex-Naughty Dog designer Benson Russell revealed that Uncharted 2's over-the-top setpieces may have negatively impacted Uncharted 3. He noted that the big set pieces, such as the train sequence, all came organically when producing the game, but that wasn't the case for Uncharted 3. Instead, the team came up with 10 or 12 set pieces, such as the cargo plane sequence, and came up with a plan to decide on a small handful that would actually make it into the game at a later date. Unfortunately, that never happened, and almost all of them made it into the final product. As a result, writer and director Amy Hennig was forced into a situation where she had to write all of these big set pieces into the game because the designers had already started working on them. “It also kind of corners Amy [Hennig] a bit, right?” he said. “Beca...

Doom Composer Mick Gordon Contributes New Track to Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2

Image
Auroch Digital and Big Fan Games have confirmed award-winning composer Mick Gordon has contributed a new track to its upcoming ’90s-inspired boomer shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2. The first taste of the original track can be heard behind today’s new release date trailer for Boltgun 2, which is blasting its way onto PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 14. It was additionally confirmed Boltgun 2 will also be coming to Switch 2 “shortly after” its debut on other platforms. The trailer showcases the first footage of the game’s chief antagonist, Vashtorr the Arkifane – described as the “daemonic demigod of inventors, engineers, scientists, and artisans.” IGN’s latest preview of Boltgun 2 found it “brings the grimy, oppressive reality of the 42nd Millennium to life with a readable, pixelated style that evokes the essence of it in a way that even the most hyperrealistic renditions like Space Marine 2 struggle to match”, and that it “feels like undiluted 40K.” Mick Gordon’s...

Canceled Iron Man Game Footage From Just Cause and Mad Max Developer Leaks Online

Image
Alleged footage from Avalanche Studios' canceled Iron Man game has surfaced online. In the early 2010s, Just Cause and Mad Max developer Avalanche Studios was working on an Iron Man game . The project was never officially announced to the public, but Avalanche Studios co-founder Christofer Sundberg confirmed its development and cancellation during an interview in 2022. Now, gameplay for that title has popped up online via Reddit , reportedly sourced through a PS3 developer kit. The gameplay is extremely unfinished, but it shows Iron Man flying around in a large environment, fighting jets and attacking various facilities. One of the more in-depth videos appears to be an unfinished E3 demo which shows Iron Man in hand-to-hand combat with soldiers, using a heavy, Arkham-esque style of combat. Of course, he also boasts his repulsors, missiles, and other gadgets to help take down all of his targets. One of the more standout features is that the environments would've been at least s...
