One Man’s Quest To Become The Greatest Gamer In The World

As it says in the Bible, “I want to be the very best, like no one ever was.” Could there be a more true passage? I don’t know; I didn’t look. But if you’re here reading this site of tips, tricks, and reviews, you’ve probably felt the urge in your soul to become a champion. There may be billions of people playing video games around the world, but haven’t you ever wondered what it would be like if you - yes, you! - were the best at a game? I’m not talking about getting a high score at a laundromat that resets its Ms. Pac-Man machine every night. I’m talking about being the best in the entire world. The greatest gamer on all of Super Earth. When other players get cute and think they’re putting up numbers, they see your score and weep knowing they’ll never overcome your spot on the leaderboard. That’s the sweet stuff, baby. Put it straight into my veins. Being so good at a video game that it breaks something in a total stranger. You want to lock down your place in high score history so

Celeste Creators' Next Game Delayed: 'This Game Ain't Coming Out in 2024'

Developer Maddy Thorson acknowledged that it's time to "face the music" in a blog posted on Thursday, announcing that Earthblade — the next game from the team behind the acclaimed platformer Celeste — won't be making its 2024 release date. In her detailed update , Thorson acknowledged some of the hurdles that the project has faced, at one point admitting that she apologized to the team as she dealt with challenges in her personal life. She also recevealed that her studio, Extremely OK Games, has hired veteran indie developer Kyle Pulver, who among other things is the "world champion of Towerfall." "Kyle quickly approached us with big ideas, which can be scary for everyone involved. But it was clear that he's not here to derail the project. He's identifying our vision and the problems preventing the game from living up to it, and working with us to pinpoint solutions. Plus his fresh eyes have inspired all of us to see things anew," Tho

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile Review

Successfully bringing well-known console video games to phones and tablets requires hitting a very specific balance. You want the mobile version to feel like the same game people already like, while acknowledging that using a touchscreen device usually means playing for a short period of time on something that's not designed for games. Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is a pretty ideal demonstration of hitting that balance — it maintains all the most important elements of the PC and console Warzone 2.0 experience, while tightening everything about it to be quicker and more concentrated. This is, essentially, a sped-up version of the Warzone fans already know and enjoy. Mobile Royale, the main mode of six available at launch, looks and feels almost exactly like its PC and console counterpart but on a slightly smaller scale. Matches are only 10 minutes long, squads are locked at three players, and a lot of the loot you find is generally of a higher quality so you can get effective gu

In 2020, indie studio Yellow Brick Games was formed by a collection of industry veterans with experience on triple-A franchises such as Dragon Age, Assassins’ Creed, and Mass Effect. After quietly working on its first project, the team is ready to show the world what it’s been cooking up. The studio released a brief teaser of their yet-to-be-titled first game. Nintendo Confirms Testing Layoffs Amid First-Party 'Lull' and Reports of Switch 2 Delay

With few major games on the horizon and the Switch 2 seemingly delayed , Nintendo of America's testing department is undergoing major changes, according to a new report from Kotaku that includes a statement from Nintendo. In its statement, Nintendo acknowledged that it is restructuring its internal testing, which will "involve some contractor assignments ending, as well as the creation of a significant number of new full-time employee positions." "For all assignments that are ending, the contractors’ agencies, with [Nintendo of America's] support, will offer severance packages and provide assistance during their transition," Nintendo said in its statement. "For those contractor associates who will be leaving us, we are tremendously grateful for the important contributions they’ve made to our business, and we extend our heartfelt thanks for their hard work and service to Nintendo." According to the contractors in the report, the restructuring

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Animators Explain the Motion Capture Magic of Hailey Cooper

One of the best trends in games in recent years has been a greater thoughtfulness in how diverse characters and stories are portrayed. While that work takes a number of different forms, one critical way developers are making this happen is through improved technology, specifically around animation and motion capture. One key example is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which saw Insomniac Games take advantage of a group of talented actors, consultants, and lots of fun little motion capture sensors to bring the Deaf character Hailey Cooper and her use of American Sign Language (ASL) to life. Last week at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), a group of animators on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gave a talk entitled ‘Thwips and Hugs: The Animation of 'Marvel's Spider-Man 2.’ In it, the group discussed the intricacies and challenges of animating elements of the game such as the Sandman fight and various QTEs. But they kicked off with the story of Hailey, whose portrayal may be one of Spider-Man 2

Outward 2 Preview: The Survival RPG That Hits Hard

Outward 2 picks up 50 years after the events of the first open-world survival RPG; developer Nine Dots tells me that “The difference in production value is significant.” Again, you’ll play a nobody of an adventurer, just a regular ol’ human against a world rife with danger. I went hands-on with a PC demo, and it felt like a hyper-polished slice of gameplay – but a rather thin one. It evinced no details of Outward 2’s story or scale, but I sure felt the series’ famously difficult combat. It left me ultimately unsatisfied, desperately wishing to learn and experience more. I started my playthrough in a quarry, having been dropped unceremoniously into the world with no preamble. The environment is very detailed, colourful, and almost cute in a low-levelled World of Warcraft dungeon kind of way. In other words, not very threatening – but I was very quickly taught otherwise. Along with my starter gear, I put on my backpack – a bulky thing that you’ll literally need to remove before com

Dragon's Dogma 2 Players Discover Working Catapults That Sometimes Break Open Secret Areas

Dragon's Dogma 2 is simply enormous, and players are still discovering wild secrets days after launch, such as a terrifying Pawn plague that makes your minions murderous . But on the slightly goofier side, the community has recently figured out how to use the numerous catapults scattered around the world, and some of them are useful for revealing secret areas. Just today, X/Twitter user @Peppo_LS shared a clip where they used a catapult in Dragon's Dogma 2 to successfully tear down a massive rock wall and unlock a new path far in the distance. Their clip has gone viral, likely because it's not immediately obvious that catapults are usable and Dragon's Dogma 2 doesn't tutorial them in any way. You have to find a working one in the world (many are broken), pick up a rock nearby, heave it over, and set it gently down for a small cutscene where the catapult flings the rock away. Your Pawns will then reset the catapult for you so you can give it another shot. Curio
