Man caught obviously smuggling CPUs under his clothes

Image
There's an old adage that says if you're going to do some crime, then at least try to be smart about it. That way, even if you get caught you have a chance to come off as some sort of Ocean's Eleven heist genius, as opposed to this guy who tried to get through Chinese customs with 239 Intel Core processors obviously strapped to his person. Chinese site Kuai Technology (via SweClockers ) has shared this Darwinian tale of one man's attempt to bring this cache of CPUs into the country.  Close your eyes with me and envision for a moment that you are a customs worker at the Gongbei Port Passenger Inspection Hall. Your day has probably been pretty uneventful so far but at about 20:10pm you spot a man walking towards the gates. His large black clothing is comically oversized, and bulges in clearly not human ways at the waist and thighs. You can see clear cornered shapes under the clothes and the person inside of them seems excessively awkward. The man makes for the ...

Bramble: The Mountain King’s Dark Themes Make it Stand Out

Depressing fantasy worlds are nothing new, yet Bramble: The Mountain King surprised me with its dark Nordic folklore. Instead of sanitizing these fairy tales like a classic Disney film, Dimfrost Studio openly embraces its most disturbing elements, presenting a twisted world brimming with atmosphere. Calling this grim adventure a horror game isn't quite right, though after a lengthy hands-on preview on PC, I'm finding this a captivating yet creepy tale. Before jumping in, Bramble warns you about its heavy subject matter, which covers themes like suicide, infanticide, and animal cruelty. Original fairy tales often find young children in dangerous situations, so this isn't surprising, but it's worth noting for anyone unaware. Playing a young boy called Olle, this tale begins innocently enough with a nighttime trip into the forest to find your older sister, Lillemor. That soon turns into a rescue mission as you traverse this twisted forest. While many games incentivize...

Add The Last of Us Part 1 to the list of bad PC ports

The Last of Us Part 1 isn't immune to the shader plague that causes many PC games to stutter and crash. Sony's latest PC port chugs on all sorts of hardware, regardless of the game's modest system requirements. Players report stuttering, frame rate inconsistency, and frequent crashes. The root of the problems seem to be from the game's shader compiling, which has become a common issue with PC games over the last few years. Your graphics card has to do some preliminary processing before the world is rendered correctly, and it has to be done in preparation for every scene in the game at least once. In some cases, developers can pre-compile shaders so you don't have to when you start the game, but it's not a common practice. The Last of Us Part 1 lets you jump right into the game and have the shaders compile in the background, but it warns you about performance issues. I chose to play the game immediately and the shader progress only hit 40% in the 10 minutes ...

Best Anime Series on Netflix Right Now (April 2023)

Image
April is here, but sadly it doesn’t look like Netflix intends to take its foot off the brakes when it comes to releasing anime series. For the second month in a row, there are no new additions to the library. Previously scheduled for a spring release, the anime movie Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King , moves to June 2023. Both the next drops for part two of Record of Ragnarok season two and upcoming new series Akuma-kun (season 1), Onmyoji (season 1), and Tomb Raider (season 1) remain 2023 releases without confirmed release dates. So, while you wait for the third and final season of Ultraman (19 episodes) to arrive on May 11, 2023, check out the April entry to the List, Naoki Urasawa’s Monster. Currently all 74 episodes of this psychological thriller are available. It’s a classic and if you’ve never seen it (or it's been a while) now’s a great time to get into it. Note: As this is a list of anime series to watch, no anime movies were considered for this feature. This lis...

As a Diablo 4 druid I regret putting all of my points into 'bear'

I think I'm just about the only person to never play a Diablo game here at PC Gamer. And maybe it's because everyone else was playing the Diablo 4 beta as rogues, sorcerers, and necromancers, or maybe I still fondly remember playing Pillars of Eternity as a party of bears , but I quickly chose druid as my class for the open beta. I knew nothing about druids going in except this: a druid can turn into a bear. That was enough for me. I took that one piece of information and decided to craft an entire identity from it. I was going to main bear . My plan was to completely max out the first bear skill, Maul, before putting points into anything else, and by "anything else" I mean the next bear-based ability. After a few hours of the beta it became clear that this was, as real druids call it, a honkingly stupid idea. The first werebear ability, Maul, lets you turn into a bear and perform a backhand attack that is basically a slap. Turning into a bear: cool. Turning back i...

Diablo 4 Player (Basically) Solos World Boss Ashava

It's too dangerous to face World Bosses in Diablo 4 alone, but not for wudjio. The Twitch streamer and YouTuber managed to solo Ashava in Hardcore Mode — not once but twice. The content creator shared footage from their live stream last night, where they unintentionally encountered Ashava without any allies at their side, even though she takes up to 12 players to defeat. Their Rogue build was armed to the teeth with a crossbow that deals 457 damage per second; energy builders Heartseeker and Rapid Fire — both of which power up Critical Strike — and abilities Shadow Imbuement, Poison Imbuement, Dark Shroud, and Dash. All these elements were key to wudjio's victory against Ashava. Players are allotted 15 minutes to beat Ashava every time she spawns. However, wudjio managed to solo her twice because of the amount of time they saved up after defeating her the first time. A sneaky assist According to a post on Icy Veins , wudjio didn't necessarily 100% solo Ashava in bot...
