Ask HN: Are the environmental concerns around Bitcoin serious?

HackerNews is the first place I’ve heard about this, every time Bitcoin is mentioned someone will say it uses as much energy as 1/10th of the world’s concrete production and therefore it is destroying the environment. I’ve only ever seen this view on HackerNews and some parts of Twitter. It’s interesting to me because Bitcoin seems very much like a “hacker” topic that HN would generally like. So how and why did opinions change? Every time Bitcoin is mentioned, every reply is someone very angrily posting about environmental concerns.

Lord of the Rings Fans Mourn King Théoden Actor Bernard Hill, Dead at 79

Bernard Hill, who found fame as King Théoden in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy and as Captain Smith in Titanic, has died. He was 79. Hill died early Sunday morning, his agent told the BBC . His representative did not share the cause of death. A long-time Hollywood veteran, Hill's most recent role was in BAFTA-winning drama The Reponder alongside Martin Freeman. Over the years he's appeared in a variety of movies including Gandhi and The Scorpion King, as well as Fable III.
