Ubisoft Reportedly Cancels Rumored Cooperative Multiplayer Assassin's Creed Game

Image
Ubisoft has reportedly canceled a multiplayer, cooperative Assassin's Creed title that has been in development at French studio Ubisoft Annecy. This comes from a report by French publication Origami , which IGN has independently translated. According to the report, the project was codenamed "AC League", was originally conceived as a DLC for Assassin's Creed Shadows, and would have potentially taken place in the same feudal Japan era. The DLC would have involved four assassins joining forces to take on a series of scripted missions with up to four players that would have ultimately concluded the story told in the game's (canceled) Season Pass . You may have already heard of AC League if you pay close attention to Assassin's Creed gossip, as it was previously rumored last year in a report from Insider Gaming . The project, Origami reports, was apparently fairly ambitious and was intended to serve as a baseline for future multiplayer features throughout the s...

PS5 Sales Decline, but It's Not Far Behind PS4 and It Even Outsold Nintendo Switch 2 During the Holiday Quarter

Image
PlayStation 5 sales declined year-on-year during the crucial holiday quarter, but it’s pretty much neck-and-neck with the PlayStation 4 at the same point during its lifecycle, and it even outsold the Nintendo Switch 2 during the last three months of 2025. Sony shifted another 8 million PS5 units during the three months ending December 31, 2025, a decline from the 9.5 million PS5s it sold during the same period in 2024. But there are a number of factors at play here. For a start, 8 million sales isn’t too shabby when you consider the PS5 price rises Sony put in place last year ( Sony raised the prices of the PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, and PS5 Pro by $50 each in August ). Then there’s the tough economic conditions globally that’s putting pressure on consumer spending generally to contend with. And it’s also worth noting that the PS5, which is now five years old, actually outsold the six month-old Nintendo Switch 2 during the holiday quarter. This week, Nintendo said the Switch 2 sold ...

Sony Says Ghost of Yotei 'Exceeded' the Sales of Ghost of Tsushima in the Same Period of Time and 'Significantly' Contributed to Its Financial Results

Image
Sony has highlighted the performance of PlayStation 5 exclusive Ghost of Yotei , insisting it outsold predecessor Ghost of Tsushima during the same period, and made a “significant” contribution to its financial results. Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei went on sale October 2, 2025, and sold 3.3 million units as of November 2 (at the 32 day mark). Reporting its financials for the quarter ending December 31, 2025, Sony failed to provide an updated sales figure, but did highlight the game in its webcast, reviewed and transcribed by IGN. “In the studio business, Ghost of Yotei, a tentpole title we released in October, exceeded the sales of the previous title in the same period of time and significantly contributed to the financial results of the quarter,” Lin Tao, Sony's chief financial officer, said. “Our established live service titles like Helldivers 2 and MLB The Show also contributed stable recurring revenue.” The statement here is a little vague (we assume “same period of t...

There's a New Prequel to Star Wars Outlaws Available Today

Image
Star Wars Outlaws was one of the most anticipated games of 2024, but it didn't quite deliver the sales Ubisoft was expecting . In IGN's Star Wars Outlaws review , we called it "a fun intergalactic heist adventure with great exploration" despite overly simplified stealth and repetitive combat. As a game, it definitely wasn't one of the more successful ventures we've seen in the series. Like any Star Wars creation, however, it's clearly backed by the sprawling universe that is Star Wars lore. It may not have sold well as a AAA game, but there were a lot of good pieces within that were still able to take fans off to that galaxy far, far away. And now that a couple years have passed, we're actually getting a Star Wars prequel in the form of a book that take the story even further. Star Wars Outlaws: Low Red Moon Is Now Available Star Wars Outlaws: Low Red Moon is available to buy at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and pretty much all other major online ...

Arknights: Endfield Review

Image
Any game built around gacha mechanics needs to have a certain hook to keep things interesting in the long term, especially if there’s potential to invest your hard-earned dollars into it. For all their systemic sins, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad and Persona 5: The Phantom X at least piqued my interest by expanding on already-revered lore, allowing me to entwine myself in their beloved worlds. The much more enjoyable Zenless Zone Zero , on the other hand, pulled me in with a mix of high-octane combat, endearing character development, and Y2K flair. Arknights: Endfield is the latest competitor in this genre’s fierce attention economy, offering not only an engrossing sci-fi open world to explore, but another mechanically moreish addition: base building and automation. It’s a clever combination that keeps you pushing, but, after 38 hours of grinding, I’ve found that Arknights leans a little too heavily on the tropes of the genre, and stops it just short of feeling like anything more than...

Magic: The Gathering's Newest Product Says the Quiet Part Out Loud

Image
This morning Wizards of the Coast put a new Magic: The Gathering product up for sale with an unexpected twist. The “Prints Charming” Secret Lair drop contains four reprinted cards with pretty excellent new art – but rather than simply telling us how much it costs, it was given five different non-foil store listings and five more for the foil version, each with a different price ranging from $10 all the way up to $50. The product description on all of them is careful to point out the following: “The only difference between listings is the price. Higher-priced listings do not include anything extra.” This, by my estimation as someone who has been playing Magic since the 90s and literally wrote the announcement for the very first Secret Lair , is pretty lame. Taken graciously, it’s a goofy marketing stunt meant to do something silly and get folk talking about it, but it nevertheless leaves those who arrived too late with a very sour taste in their mouth. A more pessimistic reading wou...
