Gabe Newell Banned NFTs from Steam Due to 'Sketchy Behavior' and 'Out of Control' Fraud

Valve has already taken a stance on NFTs and cryptocurrency being allowed on Steam, blocking games that feature blockchain technology . President and co-founder Gabe Newell has now explained the reasoning behind the decision, saying that the biggest issues were the volatility of cryptocurrency and the bad actors behind NFTs. In an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun , Newell noted that it's important to separate NFT technology from nefarious users. The concepts of digital ownership and shared universes are fine by themselves, he said, but he thinks that the bad actors in the NFT community outweigh any of the potential positives. "The people in the space, though, tend to be involved in a lot of criminal activity and a lot of sketchy behaviors," he said. "So it's much more about the actors than it is about the underlying technology." He further explains that these people aren't the kind Valve wants to do business with. To him, the space is filled with p...

Do not 'Try Jumping:' a beginner's reference to Elden Ring messages

Survive the Lands Between with these Elden Ring guides (Image credit: FromSoftware) Elden Ring guide : Conquer the Lands Between Elden Ring bosses : How to beat them Elden Ring dungeons : How to defeat them Elden Ring paintings : Solutions and locations Elden Ring map fragments : Reveal the world As a veteran Souls-liker, I've just internalized the series' more baffling quirks. It can be easy to forget how truly weird and surprising some basic elements of these games are. One feature that can be a sticking point for some first-time players is the messaging system.  Players can choose from a selection of templates and words to create little notes that show up on the ground in other gamers' worlds. The original intent seems to have been fostering cooperation, an in-game form of playground hint sharing and speculation. Messaging's real, time-honored function, however, is as a means to shitpost. Over the years, players have uncovered countless ways...

Elden Ring launch issues: how to fix these common problems

Image
Elden Ring has finally arrived and as we'd hoped, it is very much Big Dark Souls. As it turns out, taking after Dark Souls also includes taking after some of the usual PC port goofiness that Souls games have had in the past. Players are reporting troubles with gamepads, framerates, and Easy Anti-Cheat during their first day with Elden Ring. Don't despair, Tarnished One. There are already fixes for some of the problems you might be seeing. Here are the most common Elden Ring launch issues we've seen so far and what you can do to fix them. Elden Ring framerate stuttering Prior to launch, we encountered some pretty serious frame stuttering issues in Elden Ring. We observed frame rates dipping to half what we were normally playing at and down to 0 frames per second in the worst cases. The day one patch for Elden Ring fixed some of these issues, but frame drops are persisting even on systems that shouldn't be struggling to run the game. DirectX 12 shader compilation ...

Elden Ring has some super cheesy rune farming spots

Image
Elden Ring has a brutal difficulty curve, especially if you spend a lot of your time trying to claw through the game's major "Legacy" dungeons. The enemies and bosses there can crush you in a single hit or wear down your resources so fast that it can be tough to make progress. For much of the early game—which, remember, will be a good amount of time in its massive open world—you'll be starved of opportunities to level up. Runes, the currency you spend to increase your stats, are hard to come by in large quantities. For a casual or new Souls player, this has the benefit of not being as punishing when you lose your souls because you can't return to your body, but for diehards, you might want a way to punch up your class' stats to equip certain weapons and magic abilities. YouTube user PowerPyx found a great spot to farm runes that you can get to early in the game as long as you have your horse, Torrent. They claim it'll net you about 300,000 runes per ...
