Players in The Anacrusis have killed about a billion aliens already

Neato alien shootin' cooperative FPS The Anacrusis released as early access a few weeks ago, and studio Stray Bombay seems pretty happy to announce that over 200,000 players have killed over a billion aliens. The Anacrusis has been available as Early Access and/or Game Preview on Steam and PC Game Pass since January 13th. The Anacrusis is doing a "really weird" early access, which has cross-platform, cross-storefront play and metaprogression, among other things. Stray Bombay is the studio developing The Anacrusis. It was founded by Chet Faliszek, who wrote for Valve during the Left 4 Dead days, and Kimberly Voll, who was a designer for Riot Games. The Anacrusis is an bright and shiny 1970s retrofuture, where everything is all post-mid-century and modernist and also there's alien blood all over everything because your neat space cruise has been very much interrupted. There's also a black hole gun thing, which I very much like and which makes lots of aliens g...

Open-world snowboarding in Shredders hits pretty soon

Snowboarding game Shredders will likely hit in February or March, according to a leaked release date and a cryptic Tweet. The Microsoft store in the UK lists Shredders for a March 17, 2022 release date. That seems pretty trustworthy, given that Shredders debuted at Microsoft's E3 showcase  and will come to Xbox Game Pass on launch. On January 8th, the Shredders Twitter account said you wouldn't play the game for "at least a month or so." An open world game, Shredders seeks to put every player together on one big world. Kind of like the Microsoft Flight Sim of snowboarding games, I think. It's one of those handcrafted experiences, as I understand it, with wilderness, snow parks, urban, and downhill experiences to ride on.  It even appears to have a plot: "In Shredders you’ll break into the snowboarding event of the year to pull off one of the most insane tricks imaginable, all for the hope of scoring a wildcard entry to an exclusive invitational. To pro...

Don't Worry, You Can Still Catch These Starters in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is an unusual Pokémon game in many ways, including its starter Pokémon selection which is entirely made up of Pokémon from different previous games and regions. But if you're unhappy with the starter selection of Oshawott, Rowlet, or Cyndaquil, it's pretty easy to get one of a few different starter Pokémon relatively early on in the game. Warning: Spoilers for Pokémon Legends: Arceus' available Pokémon, new Pokémon forms, and sidequests follow. Read at your own risk! The starters in question that are available are the original Sinnoh (Diamond and Pearl) starters: Chimchar, Turtwig, and Piplup. And if you're lucky and hunt carefully, you can get all three decently early on and use them through the majority of the game. The first you're likely to run into is Chimchar, who is the subject of the quest 'The Mysterious Will o' the Wisp.' By following this quest you'll automatically encounter a Chimchar to catch, but there ar...

Exclusive Elden Ring Gameplay – Exploring Castle Mourne

Image
Elden Ring features numerous mini-dungeons like caves and catacombs to explore alongside giant sprawling dungeon crawls like Stormveil Castle. Castle Mourne, nestled in southern Limgrave on the Weeping Penninsula, is a place where horrors abound. Chimeric leonine creatures and other surprises await the player should they dare approach. While this locale would fall into the mini-dungeon classification, it's substantially larger than any of the minor offerings that I experienced during my 10 hours of gameplay, with a dangerous approach and several checkpoints.  Watch our exclusive Elden Ring gameplay in the video below. Afterward, check out our commentated breakdown of the footage here . Elden Ring has multiple poison swamps because 'I can't help myself,' Miyazaki says

Elden Ring , like every Souls game before it, will unfortunately include a poison swamp: a presumably nasty area where you're assaulted by enemies and projectiles that inflict you with the relentless ticking damage of a poison debuff. It turns out creator Hidetaka Miyazaki can't help but make one every time. "While making this game I rediscovered my love for making poison swamps," he told Game Informer . "I know how people feel about them but I suddenly realize I'm in the middle of making one and I can't help myself. It just happens." This time, the swamp, or swamps , will not only include poison and toxic effects (Dark Souls fans will know this as a more brutal version of poison), but a new affliction called Scarlet Rot. Scarlet Rot sounds like the worst of the three, and Miyazaki said he hopes "you look forward to it." Considering that this is the man that helps make games in which freaky lizards can petrify and instantly kill you, thi...
